Geometry, Symbolism and Stone carving

This in-person practical arts course will approach the symbolism and geometry associated with the medieval rose and planet Venus as the Morning Star. Participants will also carve a stone rose.

Course Outline

Day 1 – Geometry and Symbolism

This foundational day of study will involve Geometry drawing, PowerPoint presentations and discussion about the symbolism of the rose and planet Venus in relation to the Virgin Mary and the design of the Wells Cathedral Lady Chapel.

Days 2 and 3 – Stone Carving

Participants will carve an image of a medieval Rose into a piece of Limestone. There will be four different styles of rose to choose from.
